About me & the purpose behind Bearven Rough Collies
Hi, I’m Megan, and I’m the person behind Bearven, a small but
passionate hobbyist Rough Collie kennel built on heart, hard work, and a deep love for this
incredible breed.
My journey into the world of pedigree dogs hasn’t been conventional. I come from a
family that always had dogs- but they were scrappy rescues and lovable mutts, chosen for
companionship rather than conformation. Stepping into the world of pedigree dogs, breed standards,
and dog showing was completely new to me. At times, it was overwhelming, confusing, and more than a
little intimidating- but it was also exciting, and from the moment I discovered Rough Collies, I was
completely hooked.
These dogs captivated me with their intelligence, elegance, sensitivity, and
gentle strength. The more I learned, the more determined I became not just to show them, but to
understand the breed’s history, its challenges, and what it takes to become a thoughtful, ethical
contributor to its future.
Starting out, I wasn’t a “known face.” I didn’t have family connections in
the show world or a deep-rooted kennel legacy to lean on. That came with its own set of struggles;
feeling overlooked, navigating unspoken rules, and finding my confidence in an unfamiliar space. But
I’ve met some truly generous and encouraging people along the way, and I’ve learned a tremendous
amount in just a few short years.
I believe there’s room in this breed- and in this sport (as well as
many others!) for new faces, fresh perspectives, and passionate people who are willing to learn.
Through Bearven, I hope to not only contribute to the breed itself, but to a more inclusive and
supportive Collie community as a whole. If you're new and just finding your feet, I see you- I've
been there. And if you're someone who’s offered guidance, kindness, or just a smile ringside..thank
you. You've helped shape this journey more than you know.
Here’s to Rough Collies, and to growing
Bearven with integrity, care, and love—one beautiful soul at a time.
Bearven was born from a mix of love, learning, and a commitment to
doing things the right way.
My goals are simple but sincere going forward:
• To breed Rough Collies that are sound in health, true to type, and steady in temperament.
• To uphold and preserve the breed's beauty and working heritage.
• And to foster a sense of openness and encouragement, especially for those coming into this
world.
I also regularly host Rough & Smooth Collie & Sheltie meet ups in East Anglia. All are
welcome to attend. These are friendly, social and informal events where those who are interested in
the breed are able to meet them, as well as their owners, and to learn more about them.
Through
this, as well as other events I attend with my collies, I hope to promote the breed further and
foster a healthy, growing community that love the breed as much as I do.
