The Rough Collie is a beautiful, elegant breed known for its long, weather-resistant coat, intelligence, and gentle nature. Medium to large in size, Rough Collies are active, alert, and affectionate dogs who make wonderful family companions. They are loyal, friendly, and good with children and other pets, though they can be reserved with strangers.
Rough Collies are intelligent and trainable, thriving with positive reinforcement. They need consistent socialisation, early training, and daily activity. Their thick double coat requires weekly grooming- and more frequent brushing during shedding seasons -to keep it healthy and mat-free.
The breed has some hereditary health concerns such as hip dysplasia, collie eye anomaly, dms, dm amongst others so responsible breeders perform health testing to minimize risks. On average, Rough Collies live 12–14 years with proper care.
Owning a Rough Collie is a rewarding but long-term commitment. Along with the initial purchase price, expect ongoing costs for quality food, veterinary care, grooming, and unexpected health expenses. Like any pet, owning a Rough Collie should be considered extensively.
